Tottenham Hotspur 2013/14 Home Kit

I thought I'd give this kit a go as Tottenham are the team I support.

After painting this kit, my wonderful wife said "oh, you've painted a team of sailors!"  Thanks then!

I'm still undecided as to whether I like this kit or not; if Spurs get into the Champions League or win a trophy this year I will love it; if they win sweet fa then it'll be another forgotten kit!

Here's how the "Sailors" turned out on the little plastic men

Borussia Dortmund 1997 Champions League Winners

I recently had a request to paint the Borussia Dortmund Champions League winning kit from 1997.  I've painted a Borussia Dortmund kit before, but this kit from 1997 is a bit more complex.

For those of you that don't know, Dortmund beat Juventus 3-1 to lift the Champions League trophy.

Here's how the team turned out of the little plastic men

Football Atiic's League of Blogs 2013: Hungry Ted's entry

Following on from my post about Football Attic's League of Blogs, Hungry Ted got in touch asking for their entry to be converted into Subbuteo figures.  Here's how the crazy, bearded, no-nonsense, man’s-man of a player turned out!

Football Attic's League of Blogs 2013

The Football Attic is one of my favourite blogs to read; they have loads of articles about subbuteo as well as other retro football stuff.

For the past 2 years the guys at Football Attic have run a design your own kit competition called The League of Blogs.  This year I thought I would enter; have a look here to see this years entries.  Despite not winning, the guys at Football Attic contacted me asking if I could paint up their home and away kit and the kit for the overall winner.  I jumped at the chance!

Here's how the kits look on the little plastic men

Football Attic's Home & Away kits

Congratulations to Live For Football Shirts for winning the best kit; it reminds me of a cross between Chelsea and a Portugal away shirt.  My favourite entry (excluding my own!) has to be Hungry Ted; check out that kit design and beard combo!

Aston Villa 1988/89

During a recent subbuteo tournament I played in, one player was playing with a team of unpainted figures.  I just couldn't have that!  After finding out he was a big Aston Villa fan, he asked me to paint up what has to be one of their most complex kit designs.  As I'm always up for a challenge, I couldn't refuse.

Here's how it's turned out

I do love those Hummel kits from the late 1980's!

AS Roma 00/01

The last time Roma won the scudetto they wore this kit.  With great players such as Totti, Batistuta and Cafu in their team they managed to clinch the scudetto on the final day of the season.

Captain Tsubasa

I received an interesting request to paint up the anime football team "Captain Tsubasa".

Captain Tsubasa, also known as Flash Kicker, is a popular long-running Japanese manga, animation, and video game series, originally created by Yōichi Takahashi in 1981. The series mainly revolves around the sport of Association football.

The story focuses on the adventures of a Japanese youth soccer team and its football captain Tsubasa Oozora, whose name literally translates to "Big Sky Wings". The series is characterized by dynamic football moves, often stylish and implausible. The plot focuses on Tsubasa's relationship with his friends, rivalry with his opponents, training, competition, and the action and outcome of each football match.

Watch a clip of the animation series here

Here's how the figures turned out on the little plastic men.

Star Wars Stormtroopers

I love Star Wars. I love Subbuteo.  Combining the 2 together is a match made in heaven!

I made a Star Wars team a couple of years back and have been meaning to paint this up for a long, long time.

I'm hoping Darth Vader in goal can use the dark side of the force to keep the goals out!

Enjoy!

Tottenham Hotspur 3rd kit 2012/13

I was recently asked to paint the current Spurs 3rd kit.  I jumped at the chance!  I was asked to try and make the subbuteo figures look like the actual players as best I could.  Can you spot Gareth Bale?

Drinks Brands

I recently received an email from a fan of my work from the USA with a fantastic idea for a team to create.  The idea fits perfectly into the ethos of this blog of painting original teams that no one else will have.

Initially the idea was to create a team of 11 players based on soft drink brands; the following picture shows the rough idea drawn out by my clients son

The 11 soft drinks to be included within the team were as follows:  Coca Cola, Cherry Coke, Pepsi, Mountain Dew, Fanta, A&W Root Beer, Sprite, 7up, Dr. Pepper, Sunkist and finally Nestea.  I really liked this concept for a team and after discussing the idea with my client, I put forward the idea of having a "Father & Son" team, where the father could have alcoholic branded drinks and the son could have the soft drink brands.  My client agreed with me that it would be great for him and his son to play matches against each other with their own customised teams.  To make it personal to my client, I asked him to provide me with a list of alcoholic drinks brands that he liked (some of which I had not heard of before!) so I could paint them up.  The brands chosen were as follows:  Guinness, Bass, Heineken, Budweiser, Coors Light, Miller Light, Corona, Blue Moon, Sam Adams, Palm and finally Stella Artois.

I was given a fairly free reign to paint the teams how I thought would look best; you'll see from the pictures below that some have turned out very well on the little plastic men and hopefully do the brands justice.
